Remote not working? Quick fixes.

A dead remote is almost always a five-minute fix. Here’s the order to try.

Updated June 2026South Tampa · Bayshore

Battery first

The most common cause by far. Swap the coin-cell battery. If the wall button works but the remote doesn’t, it’s the remote — start here.

Reprogram it

After a battery change or a power event, a remote sometimes loses its pairing. Press the ‘learn’ button on the opener motor unit, then the remote button, to re-pair. Your manual has the exact sequence.

Range and interference

Shrinking range can mean a weak battery or a failing antenna on the opener. LED bulbs in the opener are a surprisingly common interference source — swapping to a different bulb sometimes restores range.

Questions, answered.

01.Why did my garage remote suddenly stop working?+

Usually a dead battery; sometimes it lost its programming after a power event. Replace the battery, then reprogram if needed.

02.How do I reprogram my garage door remote?+

Press the learn button on the opener motor, then the remote’s button. The exact steps are in your opener manual.

03.Why does my remote only work up close?+

Weak battery, opener antenna issues, or interference — often from LED bulbs in the opener. Try a fresh battery and a different bulb.
