Smart garage openers — worth it?
A smart opener turns ‘did I close the garage?’ into a glance at your phone. Here’s the practical rundown.
What you actually get
Open, close, and check the door status from anywhere; alerts if it’s left open; and the ability to grant access (a delivery, a guest) remotely. The LiftMaster and Chamberlain units we install are Wi-Fi enabled out of the box.
What to look for
Built-in Wi-Fi (no add-on hub), battery backup (Florida code for new installs), and a quiet belt drive if there’s living space nearby. See opener installation.

Questions, answered.
01.What is a smart garage door opener?+
One with built-in Wi-Fi so you can open, close, monitor, and get alerts from your phone anywhere.
02.Do smart openers work in a power outage?+
The opener needs battery backup (standard on new installs) to run during an outage; the Wi-Fi needs your internet/router powered.
03.Can I add Wi-Fi to my old opener?+
Sometimes with an add-on module, but a modern opener with built-in Wi-Fi and battery backup is usually the better value.
